
With a dazzling selection of new National Theatre Live screenings as well as the return of Exhibition on Screen and Hong Kong Cinema, there’s a great programme of films coming to the big screen at The Core Theatre over the next few months! Here’s what’s coming up…
On Friday 22 May, enjoy a special screening of a hit musical movie with The Greatest Showman With Wine hosted by The Wine Events Company! Expect a fun and theatrical wine tasting featuring five themed wines and a bearded lady.
Hong Kong Cinema returns to The Core on Tuesday 26 May with Ciao UFO, a 2019 Cantonese-language drama with English subtitles. Based on a famous Hong Kong’s urban legend, Ciao UFO tells the coming-of-age tale of four childhood friends.
There’s one last chance to see NT Live: All My Sons on Tuesday 26 May. Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean-Baptiste feature in the triumphantly acclaimed new production of Arthur Miller’s classic play about morality, money and loyalty.
Exhibition on Screen: Frida Kahlo comes to The Core on Wednesday 3 June and Monday 6 July. Who was Frida Kahlo? Everyone knows her face, but who was the woman behind the bright colours, the big brows and the floral crowns? Take a journey through the life of an icon and uncover the true story of her rebellious, passionate and turbulent life in this cinematic documentary from Exhibition on Screen.
Don’t miss NT Live: The Playboy of the Western World on Wednesday 3 and Wednesday 24 June, starring Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls). John Millington Synge’s riveting play of youth and self-discovery is a darkly funny tale full to the brim with secrets.
NT Live: Les Liaisons Dangereuses will be screening on Wednesday 8 and Wednesday 29 July. BAFTA award winner Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) joins Aidan Turner (Rivals) in a striking new staging of Christopher Hampton’s celebrated adaptation of the classic novel, where among the glittering salons of the super-rich, one misstep can mean ruin.
Finally, Hong Kong Cinema continues on Wednesday 29 July with animated fantasy drama film Another World. A spirit guide helps those in the afterlife navigate their souls towards reincarnation in this Cantonese language film with English subtitles.
